Know more about the captain of the Ship, the
director: Rajkumar Hirani (commonly known
as Raju Hirani) was born on 20 November, 1962 in Nagpur to a Sindhi family. His
father Suresh Hirani ran a typing institute in Nagpur. Hirani family migrated
to India from Sindh during Partition of India when Suresh Hirani was
14-year-old. Rajkumar Hirani studied in St. Francis De'Sales High School,
Nagpur, Maharashtra. Rajkumar did not have enough marks to get admission in
engineering and medical courses so he did his graduation in commerce.Hirani
helped his father in his business but he wanted to be actor in Hindi films. In
college days he was involved with Hindi theatre. Suresh got his son's
photographs shot and packed him off to an acting school in Mumbai. But Raju
could not blend in and returned to Nagpur after three days. His father then
asked Raju to apply to the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, but
the acting course had shut down by then and chances of admission to the
directorial course looked slim as there were far too many applicants. So Raju
opted for the editing course. He earned a scholarship, thereby reducing the
load on his father's shoulders
Rajkumar Hirani's first directorial venture
was Munnabhai MBBS (2003) which is considered a cult classic. Munnabhai MBBS
not only broke all formulaic conventions associated with Bollywood films but
also became a trend setter. Made on a budget of Rs. 100 million, it was a huge
hit worldwide and took a distributor share of Rs. 250 million from the Indian
market. His second directorial effort was Lage Raho Munnabhai which had a
strong cultural impact in India, popularising Gandhism under Munna Bhai's
notion of Gandhigiri. The film was generally well received by both critics and
the mass audience and was a huge box office success.
His third film was the comedy 3 Idiots
starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Omi Vaidya,
Parikshit Sahni and Boman Irani. The film was also very well received by the
critics. 3 Idiots became the highest grosser in Indian cinema shattering all
records across Indian and overseas markets.

My Gut Feel and comments:
Raju hirani brought back the characterization
in hindi films after long time, beat the character of munna bhai, circuit,
chatur ramalingum or viru sahastr budhi etc. His films are pure entertainment
with evenly balanced screenplays presented in simplest way possible. In his
three films as director he has offered stories with mass appeal which connected
well with Indian audience, same seems to be the case with PK.
PK appears to be bit experimental in nature
as far its screenplay or story line is concerned however one this is clear that
it would be holding the entertainment value backed by some interesting
performances. Length of the movie is just over two and a half hour, I believe
it should be shorten by 15 minutes as these day holding the attention of audience
for this much long is a daunting task.
Aamir khan is looking extraordinary in promos
and anushka appearing refreshing. It has been observed off late that big banner
films with superstars are low in the content still manage to do good business
at box office resultant of high voltage marketing and extensive screening
around festivals or holidays which practically do not do justice to the
audience and can be considered as cheating as even being average movies they do
wonderful business at box office. However this does not seems to be case with
PK and as per my gut feel it would be a treat to audience and live up to the
expectations.
I would give this movie 4 out of 5 stars,
four days before the release.
