In early 2012 he directed his first Bollywood feature film, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu with leading stars backed by Dharma Productions. The movie was well received at the box office and by the critics. The movie Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu was lauded for its state-of-the-art direction and refreshing music. He worked as an assistant director in Don 2, Rock On!! And Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na

My Gut Feel and comments:

This is indeed a tough one to predict and quite tricky. Promo is smartly edited covering the possible weaknesses of a storyline and screenplay. I tried to find out more about the directed Shakun Batra and one thing is clear that he is a passionate filmmaker and done a decent job with his first offering as a director of “Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu”.Film got the above average ratings from critics and has done decent business at box office however personally I didn’t like the movie much as somehow I felt that both Kareena and Imran occupied most of the screen space which made it sluggish and it was difficult to stay attentive as the screenplay was too flat to handle.
On the contrary, in the case of Kapoor & Sons do have 6 pivotal character and it looks like everyone gets their due screen space which does make it's an engaging plot.
As the film is prepared under Karan Johar’s banner,  it do hold the influence of him and showcases his style of cinema which is youth appealing, however, to be honest missing the element which reaches out to the heart of typical mass audience as whole set up is too urban for them to relate. This is primarily a case with the films which he produced and not directed off late like Shaandaar, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Hasee Toh Phasee and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein etc etc…
Now coming back to Kapoor & Sons storyline seems engaging and star cast is quite impressive and refreshing. I am keeping my figures  cross and hoping that other then few flaws and drop outs here and there no major goof-ups made and film would live up to the expectation. It would be an above average movie and at least, entertain the multiplex audience if not reach out to the mass audience. Decent success at box office seems possible as it is not getting major competition with a releasing as a standalone big banner movie.

Going by my gut feeling I am giving Kapoor & Sons 3 stars out of 5, one day before the release.
