Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director: Imtiaz began his career
directing TV programs including “Kurukshetra”
for Zee TV and Imtihaan for Doordarshan.[14] He moved on to Bollywood
films. In 2005, he made his directorial debut with “Socha Na Tha” starring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia. He quoted,
later in a talk, that it took him three years to make the film. Despite its box
office failure, the film won critical acclaim.
His second film, “Jab We Met”, starred then real-life
couple Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, and became his first box office
success. His next film, “Love Aaj Kal”

commercial success to date. Ali's next film “Rockstar”,
starring Ranbir Kapoor, did well at the box office despite mixed reviews.
He founded his film
production company, Window Seat Films; whose first release was “Highway”. Starring Randeep Hooda and
Alia Bhatt, the film was well appreciated by critics. His next production film,
“Tamasha”, starred Ranbir Kapoor and
Deepika Padukone in the lead roles and was released to mixed reviews on
November 27, 2015.
My Gut Feel (MGF) and comments:
“Cinema is the ultimate pervert art. It doesn't give you what
you desire - it tells you how to desire.” ― Slavoj
Žižek (
Slovene sociologist, philosopher, and cultural
critic)
Unlike his experimental
and unconventional work that we have witnessed in the recent past, this time it
appears that Imtiaz Ali has chosen
to stroll down the path of mainstream love story.
“Jab Harry
met Sejal” seems to be a typical
love story with light hearted narration from an intelligent writer cum director
Imtiyaz Ali.
This film should be
a sweet treat for Anushka and Shahrukh fans. One can expect a decent lighthearted
love story. I feel that nowadays as an audience, we all accept a fast paced cinematic
experience. Hence it would have been a daunting task to weave a two and a
half hour long story that could keep the
audiences hooked on to their seats without feeling worn-out.
Going by My Gut Feel (MGF), I am giving this movie 3
out of 5 stars four days before the release. 2.5 stars for Shahrukh’s tried and tested style of cinema and point five star additional for Imtiaz Ali's write up and direction which should given an edge to over all look and feel of this film.
